The Woman at the Tam O'Shanter

Once the belle of the bar,
now her hair is frazzled, her top
two front teeth missing
(knocked out by a drunk man),
her skin leathery and of an odd
brown hue. She seems disoriented,
talking loudly and looking around,
but no one answers. They brood
or talk quietly with their friends,
backs turned to her. She is
the same as so many women
I've seen over the years --

I wonder where they all go.
